Do you think the internet has changed the perception of identity in society?

The internet has changed how we communicate and take in information, but it may how be changing our identity as a whole. People have learned to used names that
weren’t given to us by our parents, and letting us take on other names behind an
ever-growing community of people behind the screens we find ourselves.

The main issue we find ourselves now is if we accept these new names we give
ourselves as identities in modern society, and if it changes our perception of
society.

So is there is a disconnect with us and society when we take these names as our
own? Can we allow this to be a thing in our lifetime, or should we only live by our
given names at birth? And most importantly, is our identity in society being
perceived in many ways than just through one lens?
