Demonstrate knowledge about diversity competent practice and cultural humility with a diverse, disadvantaged and/or oppressed population. The main areas that will be covered in this paper include: Describe the mechanisms in American society that cause or reinforce discrimination and/or oppression (past and present) of this population. Describe attitudes and stereotypes (current and historical) of the dominant culture toward the population and the impact of these attitudes on the population (psychological, physical, political, economic, social, etc.) as well as the strengths of your chosen population;
Describe privileges and advantages that dominant groups have over the population (male privilege, white privilege, heterosexual privilege, wealth or class privilege, etc.). Describe how this privilege and these differences or conflicts in values or beliefs might influence the helping process;
Identify knowledge and skills regarding relationship building, assessment, planning, action, evaluation and/or termination that are necessary to become diversity competent; and
Identify one direct evidence-based intervention, and one indirect evidence-based intervention method that could be used with your population and describe how these would be used to serve them in a diversity competent manner.
