Scenario
William Johnson 82:
During your community nursing home visit to William, you notice 2 large bags of prescribed medications for the patient but they are unopened. This medication includes Aspirin, Simvastatin, Paracetamol and Amitriptyline amongst others. William has full mental capacity but tells you he does not take the medication as they ‘do not do anything’.
How could this situation be dealt with safely, considering the role of the nurse in measuring and promoting quality care and the role of the nurse in prescribing medication?
