Radiation physics : What is the origin of the lines associated with the transitions between excited states in the hydrogen atom.

Radiation physics

(a) i. What is the origin of the lines associated with the transitions between excited states in the hydrogen atom.

ii. Given that the electron binding energy for a hydrogen atom is 13.6 eV
calculate the energy difference between the n=4 and n=2 states in the
hydrogen atom.

iii. To which part of the EM spectrum does the transition from the n=2 to n=1
ground sate in hydrogen correspond to?

(b) State the basic postulates of the Bohr model of the hydrogen atom. Define the term Bohr Radius (a0) with respect to the Bohr model of the hydrogen atom and remark on both the successes and limitations of this model.
