Personality
Personality refers to “a consistent pattern of ways of thinking, feeling and acting with regard to the environment, including other people” (Northouse, 2013: 319). A personality is characterized by a list of tendencies or qualities and has been linked to a host of organizational outcomes, including leadership emergence and leadership effectiveness.
Give an explanation on the following five personality traits:
• Neuroticism: The propensity to experience and understand negative emotions
• Extraversion: The predisposition to get energy from being around others; and to be dominate in groups
• Openness: The inclination to be interested in new and/or unusual things
• Agreeableness: The tendency to “go along to get along” and place high value on getting along well with others
• Conscientiousness: Interest in leading a structured and organized life
