Develop a list of at least three “paths into” your topic.

Seeing All Sides

1) Select one of your three topics, or take the topic that I’ve encouraged you to select.
2) If your topic is broad, work toward narrowing it down. For example, “I support animal rights” is broad; “I’m against scientific experimentation on animals” or “All animal shelters should be no-kill shelters” is narrower.
3) Take the narrower topic and do internet research to get a feel for current events and discussion in this area.
4) Find some happenings and expert voices on a different side of the issue.
(Remember to use NewsGuard to help you find responsible sources!)
For example, I see that experiments on animals helped lead to the speedy development of Covid vaccines; this is part of a pro-animal-testing article.
