Scenario
On 15th July 2021 your client, Mrs. Elena Roberts, was charged with the murder of her husband, Mr. David Roberts, contrary to common law. The agreed facts are as follows:
Your client, Mrs. Roberts was informed by her daughter, Ms. Sophia Medina, that Mr. Roberts had sexually abused her and her siblings throughout their childhood. Upon hearing the revelation, Mrs. Roberts claims to have ‘snapped’ and left Ms. Medina’s residence at approximately 11.30pm. Mrs. Roberts entered the residence that she shared with Mr. Roberts and prepared a solution of boiling water and sugar, which she proceeded to douse Mr. Roberts in whilst he was sleeping. Mr. Roberts died from his injuries four hours later in St. Benedicts Hospital. Mrs. Roberts was arrested that evening and charged with murder. She has since been remanded in custody, awaiting trial.
