Pediatric Nursing Teaching Plan

Upon completion of this assignment, the student will be able to:

  • Consult and collaborate with a community-based health care professional (school nurse)
  • Plan and write an outline of a health-related educational offering.
  • Utilize the principles of growth and development in constructing a teaching strategy
  • Present a health-related educational offering to share with school age kids (handout, flyer, notecard, poster etc.)

 

Steps of Process

  1. Identify the age-group (grade school, middle school or high school) that you are interested in.

 

  1. Contact the school nurse/administrator/teacher at the appropriate school and choose an age-appropriate topic to present as a health-related educational offering based on community needs.

 

  1. Write a rough-draft of your educational presentation in OUTLINE FORMAT

 

  1. Write a teaching plan that includes rationales for strategies related to Growth &Development citing the developmental

theorists

    Note: Each “teaching point” must have at least one corresponding teaching strategy on your Teaching Plan

 

  1. Finalize your outline so that it includes:
    • Subjects to be covered in presentation/educational piece
    • Order in which subjects will be addressed

 

  • Finalize you teaching plan so that it includes:
    • Each separate teaching point
    • Teaching strategy for each teaching point (same strategy may be used for more than one teaching point)
    • YOUR rationale for selecting strategy related to the needs and characteristics of age children you have chosen
    • Description of how your teaching project/activity is responsive to community needs
    • References in APA format
