INFORMATIVE PRESENTATION ASSIGNMENT
Give a 5 minute presentation that introduces a new concept, idea and object to the class.
You should avoid topics that are common knowledge for most people.
Use the skills you have learned from course lectures, activities, and readings and incorporate them into this speech.
- This includes adequately researching and organizing the speech as well as incorporating appropriate presentational aids and delivery.
Grading
It is important to review the evaluation standards for the assignment so that you are aware what is expected from you. On GAView, I provide you with an Instructor Evaluation Form. The following offers several questions to ask yourself:
- Did you incorporate all the elements of introductions and conclusions?
- Did you adapt to your audience?
- Did you use presentational aids adequately?
- Was the body of your speech organized well?
- Did you use supporting material correctly?
- Was the speech delivered well?
- Did your outline conform to the standards described in class and on the evaluation sheet?
Guideline for the Speech
- Time limit is 4-6 minutes. If you go over or under the time limit you will be penalized 5% per 30 seconds over/under.
- You must speak extemporaneously.
- You must incorporate presentational aids.
- You must have at least 5 sources in both the speech (orally) and the outline. Only 1 source may be an popular media source. The rest must be academic in nature. Ask if you are unsure.
- On the day of the presentation you will hand in 1) a full-sentence outline, 2) a works cited page, and 3) a copy of the instructor evaluation sheet. Staple all three together.
