An educational trend is a change in an educational pattern. A current trend may be a theory (e.g., situated learning theory, brain-based learning, social justice), policy or legislation (e.g., Race to the Top, RISE teacher evaluation system), national or international movements (e.g., Common Core State Standards, cosmopolitanism).
Analyzing trends/studying these patterns, is common in the financial sector, but has also been used in other fields, including health and education. Trend analysis often using statistical methods. However, for this class, you will use a qualitative approach to analysis.
Instructions for Analysis
Once you identify a trend, and using the readings and resources presented in the course so far, your analysis should:
Identify the most relevant literature discussing the trend, with an emphasis on empirical, theoretical, and policy literature.
Identify and discuss patterns in the trend’s development and evolution.
Construct a timeline of the trend’s development and evolution.
Predict future evolution of the trend.
It is important that you thoughtfully assess where you fit into the big picture of educational trends and curriculum and instruction and write your analysis from that angle.
