- When was the research conducted? What has changed since then in that context? If anything?
- Are the aims of the research clearly laid out? Have they given clear rationale for the research?
- What theoretical ideas have influence the research? What Theoretical assumptions have been made?
- Is their methodological approach appropriate/sound? What are the limits to their methodological choices?
- Has their research been conducted ethically? How has this been evidenced?
- Are you (as a reader) convinced by the argument? Are the conclusions well-supported by evidence?
- How do the findings compare to other research? Why might different research on this topic have reached different conclusions?
- Has anything been overlooked by their interpretation? Are there alternative interpretations of their findings?
- What are the implications of the research? What questions does this raise?
