Read Chapter 20: Mentoring in the Example of Christ in Nursing as Ministry.
In several sessions during this course, we will be spending time reflecting upon specific biblical principles and biblical worldview issues that are directly applicable and pertinent to developing a Christian nursing practice based on the mission of the School of Nursing and Health Professionals. Entries for class sessions should be sufficient in length to adequately address each issue in some depth.
Each Biblical Perspective Response should use biblical verses and a commentary reference. Acceptable commentaries are:
• John McArthur’s Biblical Commentaries of the Bible
• Matthew Henry’s Commentary
• Reformation Study Bible
• Bible Gateway
• Spurgeon, Charles Haddon
• Jamieson, Fausset & Brown
• Edwards, Jonathan
• Blue Letter Bible
• The Moody Bible Commentary
• Kent Hughes, Preaching the Word New Testament Commentary
• John F. Walvoord and Roy B. Zuck, The Bible Knowledge Commentary
• Wiersbe, Warren, The Bible Exposition Commentary
• Dr. J. Vernon McGee Commentaries
When utilizing a reference, please be sure to format it according to APA guidelines, making sure that you give credit where credit is due for other people’s thoughts that influence you but that are not your own (i.e., don’t plagiarize!).
The purpose of Biblical Perspective Responses is to provide you with an opportunity to critically understand the meaning of the verse or text by researching the original meaning and the author’s intent. You may be asked to reflect upon Scripture, a Christian writing, or other materials.
Answer the following questions:
• What is the original author’s intent and/or meaning and the main point of the Scripture verse, Christian writing, or other materials that are being reviewed?
• Do you agree with these main points? Why or why not? (You must substantiate your view with a supportive resource, i.e., commentary, writing, book, etc.).
• What do you think you should do, based on your response to this reflection?
• Describe how mentoring can transform lives to be more like Christ.
• Why might God want us to assume the role of a mentor/mentee?
• How is mentoring a biblical concept? How did Jesus mentor?
• Reflect upon any verse of your choosing to support your answers and use the commentary to elaborate on the intention of the chosen verse and its background.
