Qualitative Research
Below you will see two images of The Simpsons – one in color and the other in black and white. Light has two different properties: lightness and color. In the example, you can see how the colors, when switched to black, white, and gray, reflect the value of each color. For example, the red skirt of Lisa reflects the value of a middle gray; whereas, the green lips and the orange/yellow of Homer’s bald head are of different colors yet they appear to have the same value.
View an animation of the letter “A” (Links to an external site.). This animation reflects the same idea as above.
Format for Delivery: After viewing the animation of the letter “A” and the Simpsons’ image, what have you learned about the importance of value in art? Compose a discussion thread that addresses both questions below:
- How does the “A” animation correlate with what you see happening with the Simpsons’ color composition?
- Explain in detail the effects that cause the grayscale image of the “A” animation to be basically two values of gray.
- Develop your response for the two questions in a text application
