Designed to strengthen your understanding of the role the social workers play in the mental health system, and will focus on exploring the following area:
•How social workers in mental health setting scan maintain oppression and/or advocate for liberation •How the structural oppression can limit advocacy and substantive changes? •Reflection on why you took this class and your evolving perception of social work practice in the mental health setting Please answer the following questions that align with the goals above: Overview of Social Work and Mental Health •Why did you decide to take this course;and if you are considering working in a mental health setting, which setting are you aiming towards? •Do you think that everyone can improve their mental health status? Please explain why or why not. •If someone asked you “what do social workers do in general?” what would you say? i.e. what is your definition of a social worker to day regardless of what setting,they work in. •If someone asked you more specifically what a social worker does in mental health settings what would you say?
