Reality Show Concept: DREAM HOUSE – Write a reality show style script involving siblings or family members who are going through a major life change. Cooking and home renovation are actions that lend themselves to scenes bringing characters together and include sensory details that are strong on the page.
Character Motivation: THE WIZ – Show a character’s motivation to change by writing dialog and/or incorporating music into a scene. The scarecrow’s motivation to learn is an example. You may use The Wizard Of Oz as a starting point for an adaptation, or write an original scene.
Conversation in a Confined Space: Roy Spivey – Write a story or scene in which a character meets a celebrity and spends a limited time in a confined space conversing or engaging in action you describe, a la Miranda July’s short story.
Pandemic Comic: Make a comic with at least three panels in which you depict an aspect of life during the pandemic. Emily Flake’s comic about emerging from prolonged quarantine, and Issy Manely’s piece about working in a New Orleans restaurant are examples.
The Diner: Write a scene inspired by a setting or a mood inspired by a piece of music. For example, Suzanne Vega’s song Tom’s Diner brings listeners into the scene through rhythm and description.
