The student will write two essays (summary essays) of at least five double-spaced typed pages each summarizing his/her knowledge of two of the major problems examined in the study. The paper should take the form of an interpretive narrative. That is, it should describe and explain not only what happened in history but why and how it happened. Since the summary essays are not research papers, but opportunities to demonstrate what they have actually learned from the readings and discussions in this study, the papers should manifest a knowledge of the information, and an understanding of the concepts contained in the textbooks, and in our discussions
